One rule I have followed my entire life is 'Waste not, want not'. I don't throw any food products away unless they are spoiled or might kill someone. Use them in your compost pile, feed it to your chickens, add it to pet food, keep it to give to strangers knocking on your door after true SHTF.

Anyone else thought about how hard that insurance company laughed at that person who called and asked "does my insurance cover space objects punching holes in my roof"

@annieg822

I use to have a large population of dragon flies that kept our mosquito numbers down. They haven’t been around the last two years. Mosquitos are horrible this year!

Update: Here in western Washington I bought a family package of boneless skinless chicken breast . After cooking the chicken, I went to throw away the Styrofoam package, and it was heavy . I weighed it, and it was 13 oz. The absorber pad was full of liquid . Way too much liquid for 5 boneless skinless chicken breast! I feel like the store got me for 3/4 of a pound!

Why dont you explain why China refuses to sell us rare earth minerals?

@cheerful1today

Good morning, I still have auguson from 2009. Some still have shelf life to 30 years. Their strawberries will go bad. Mostly everything lasted though. My favorites were the macaroni and the powder cheese. I liked the vegetables but couldn't get through much all at once, threw them out eventually. Keep on prepping . I like the comments section and what people have to say I find interesting. 😊

Central NC here. I also noticed a drastic reduction in the insect population. The overhead spraying has been out of control, and they don't even bother hiding it anymore. The cars are now often found covered with a light gray powder film/haze and we have trees already changing colors.

Good Morning you all. πŸŒ„

Home Depot sells a bucket kit that plugs into your portable batteries. You fill the bucket with ice and it blows cold air with the fan that you plug into your rechargeable battery.

I use the Augason dry milk that's reaching its best-by date as coffee creamer.

@soyoucametosee7860

Really!? Pizza, ice cream, and junk food seem to dominate the complaints of empty shelves!

Update I shop at a small Walmart in Ogdensburg NY. In May there was no Great Value canned salmon, even at the bigger stores in Watertown. I buy this brand because it is $3 for almost 15 oz and has the same quality as other more expensive brands. In June it was back on the shelves, but the use by date was Dec 2025. Hmm, normally fresh stock is good for at least 3 years. Two days ago I bought 6 more cans and they were all dated to Oct 2025. This is old stock. Still good, but it tells me it is being pulled in from places that don't sell a lot and even that stock must be running out.

Meijer grocery stores have family packs of 80/20 ground beef this week for $2.49a pound, limit 3 packages

Update-I had to put in a rare Walmart order. I started my order Thursday night, but didn't finish it until Friday morning. While I was sleeping and the store was closed, the prices on some items went up and other items went out of stock. The toilet paper that I had ordered went up $2 and then out of stock, but was substituted (still $2 more). Plain paper plates were also out of stock and way more expensive than they were the last time I bought some. Several small items had to be shipped. Is there an issue with paper products again? They've been remodeling my local store, so I almost wanted to go inside and see for myself, but I haven't done so yet.

I hope those who have an emergency food that they don't care for don't actually throw it all away. I'm sure there are people who would be thrilled to put it to good use. Also, if things get bad enough, you might be surprised what will taste better than nothing. You could also keep it to trade for something you like better.

UPDATE: There are a lot more concerning chemicals in the pokes than mercury, plus you are 26.9 % more likely to cough cough if you do.

@PJwillent

Grew up having to drink powdered milk. No, it doesn't taste great, but it is nutritious and you wont die.
