The 'Capture' way IS faster but it's not controllable at all , it has way too many keyframes , whereas the 'noob' version could be modified with curves and stuff

pro way is to simply make the path using pen->null follow path. snap any object. This way, any object will follow the path and also the rotation. You can also edit the path to your liking with ease.
