Never Let Me Go, The Road, Middlesex, Atonement, Memory Police
Grateful every day I found your channel because I was so burnt out by the constant pushing of the same books over and over on the internet (looking at you romantasy). You’re a breath of fresh air and I appreciate you

I saw Ocean Vuong speak at my college and it was so incredible to hear how eloquent he is. Great list :)
love to see perks of being a wallflower here, i've read that book countless times and still find myself drawn back to it again and again
7:08 I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower every two years, not on purpose but because I find myself drawn back to it. I've had the same copy since 2014 and it has been through hell and back; it has been annotated, highlighted, dog-eared, stained with coffee and tears. It has even fallen in the toilet. When I re-read it, I look back on the old notes I would write in the margins and reflect on how I felt when I wrote them. It makes me think about how it felt being 17, 19, 21, etc, and growing through the monumental wins and heartbreaking losses. This novel — and its film adaptation — is a classic in a simple and human way. I think it will stick with me for the rest of my life.
you should definitely read more of sally rooney's work! most people's fave is normal people but mine is conversations with friends (her debut). intermezzo is great too!
I loved James on audio!!! So phenomenal
I bought 1Q84 when I was right out of college and wanted to stretch my book money as far as it would go. It’s still one of my favorites to this day!
July narrates her audiobooks. This is how I experienced First Bad Man and it was amazing. I didn't like All Fours as much at first, but stuck with it due to the narration and it ended up being worth it. I can imagine it being harder to get into her headspace without hearing the way she reads them, though.
Completely agree with you on Murakami, Brett Easton Ellis, and Miranda July. Some future classics I think will further cement themselves with time. - Tender is the Flesh - Annihilation - Neuromancer - House of Leaves - The Wager - The Terror - No Longer Human - Chaingang All-Stars - My Year of Rest and Relaxation (still can't believe you haven't read it!) - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - The Road (although Cormac’s bibliography is similarly to Ellis, already all classic?) - A Secret History (might already have evolved from internet darling to be considered a classic) - Normal People - Hunger Games Some future horror classics: - Gerald’s Game - The Outsider - Nestlings - The Troop - We Used to Live Here - Buffalo Hunter Hunter Some fantasy future classics: - A Way of Kings - Mistborn - The Blade Itself
THE SHARDS‼️‼️ IVE BEEN SINGING THIS BOOKS PRAISES FOR AGES I THINK IT IS SO FANTASTIC
Only surprised about Before the Coffee Gets Cold. That's just a basic TikTok book.
I was confused about Before The Coffee Gets Cold making the list but then I realized it kinda gives Tuesdays with Morrie vibes which was required reading at my high school so I can see the vision there (I also didn't love it enough to want to continue with the series)
Yes to Human Acts! All Fours and The Shards I found okay but my mind wasn’t blown. The Shards is the only book I’ve read by BEE and never having been to LA has seriously affected my experience. There was so much reference to places and things I didn’t get because of that.
The reveal at the end tho! She is a classic
I think the Sally Rooney novel you read is her worst one! Also, Elena Ferrante's other novels outside of that series are fantastic, and many are very short. Highly recommend The Days of Abandonment.
The Shards is one of my favorites!!!
honestly some of these felt like classics to me already, especially a little life and perks of being a wallflower!
